Citizen Reporting
Media today has evolved from being the passive medium it was in the past. Today, with the advancement of technology and convergence of telco and media inherently, the ‘times’ are giving way to more interactive programming on the airwaves of traditional media.

Not only have reality programming become an essential mix in the success of the entertainment of today’s media audience, but the way in which news reporting and information is being given out to the public has also evolved. It is apparent that viewers themselves are shaping the future of news and information.

Communication has changed greatly with the advent of the Internet and the growth of high tech mobile phones enabling the sharing of GPRS or 3G content at the press of a button. This phenomenon has enabled citizens to contribute to journalism, without professional training.

The basic idea behind citizen journalism is that people without professional journalism training can use the tools of modern technology to create, augment or fact-check media on their own or in collaboration with others.

For example, you might snap a digital photo of a newsworthy event happening in your town and post it online. Or you might videotape a similar event and post it on a site such as YouTube.

At WaveNET we saw this as the ideal time to offer both the media houses and the public a more immediate way in which to share news worthy information with their friends and the community at large when we introduced the concept of ‘citizen journalism’ as a product in our video suite.
